10 Lessons I’ve Learned From My Husband

lessons of woman and man holding hands

Since 2009, I’ve been with the man of my dreams. And since then, we’ve been through a journey. One that has taught us both lessons. But a lot of the lessons I’ve learned and somewhat applied came from my husband. In the midst of our journey together, we’ve been able to change things in our life for the better. I 100% believe that the amount of growth and positive change we’ve endured together is what strengthened our relationship.

Below I have gathered the 10 most important lessons that I’ve learned from my husband and I’ve been able to apply it on my journey of self-growth.

Here are the 10 lessons my Husband taught me (so far)

Lesson 1: Add Some Laughter

Life can be taken too seriously sometimes. Start adding a laugh or a smile throughout your day. You will see how much it can do to your day. Plus it’s a great way to get yourself out of a funk!

Lesson 2: Necessary Stubbornness

Being stubborn isn’t always a bad thing. If you’re going after something you want and what is being put in front of you doesn’t serve your purpose, it’s okay to say no or to walk away. This is can provide you with clarity and focus on your goals and beliefs.

Lesson 3: Always Continue to Grow

Working on yourself doesn’t have to be a chore. After all, it is a choice. But if you want to grow in certain areas of your life, keep working on your self-development journey. There is lots to learn and apply especially with the tons of resources that are out there. You can create a habit by working on yourself on the regular.

Lesson 4: Love Wisely

Spreading the love too thin can wear you out. Of course, there is enough love to go around. But sometimes giving love to the wrong person or thing, can wear you out. Giving love to the ones who truly earn it can show you to cherish it more and see the quality over the quantity.

Lesson 5: Embrace The Suck

Like they say, life is like a roller coaster. You’ve got your ups and downs. As you are going through your life journey there will be times that nothing will come in your favor. But if you just keep pushing forward and learn from the failures, you can see that the good is just around the corner.

Lesson 6: You Have Time

Sometimes you might see other people way ahead of you and you may feel like you’re way behind. Remind yourself that it’s not a race to get to where you want to go. You are going to go through some amazing things in your life just keep pushing forward and things are going to happen for you.

Lesson 7: Others Opinions Don’t Matter

Focusing on what others think of us can be damaging to our self-esteem. Letting go of the thought of others’ opinions is absolutely freeing. By doing this, you are being your true self. Remember, if someone isn’t rooting for you along your journey, what’s the point of listening to what they have to say.

Lesson 8: Ethics

Always doing the right thing can prevent things from coming back to you later on down the road. If you’re taking shortcuts in anything it might not come out as planned. Do it right the first time.

Lesson 9: Long Term

Sometimes we have a microwave mentality. Meaning we want things done quick and easy. But by seeing things in the long term, you are going to have more lasting results. Also, you will be able to have a clearer vision to go after your goals.

Lesson 10: Believe in yourself

They say that once you start believing in yourself, all things are possible. If you think about it, belief is what drives us to go after something. Why not start with belief in yourself and give yourself the credit you deserve.

These 10 lessons continue to help me on a daily basis. I’m so thankful for him every day because he’s helped in my own journey of self-discovery. And without that, I’m not sure where I would be.
