Skincare for Self-Care: Tips For Maintaining Clear Skin

skincare products for self-care

A fresh face can do you good. That is why a good Skincare routine is important, especially when you are adding more self-care to your life.

I’m no stranger to the struggles of dealing with persistent acne, big blemishes, and irritated skin.

It wasn’t until recently (in my mid-twenties) that I finally found a skincare routine that finally cleared up the years of torment I put my skin through!

Yes, my skin isn’t perfect and still get the hormonal blemish here and there but it’s better than where I was before.

Having a consistent routine not only helped raise my confidence levels but also my self-love levels too! Crazy right?!

Now, I know you want to see the good stuff on clearing up your skin. But before I get into it, I want to make a disclaimer.

Everyone’s skin is different. Some of us have Dry/sensitive skin, oily skin, or a combination type of skin. Whatever your skin type is, this may or may not work for you.

But don’t be discouraged, finding your skincare routine is a part of the process of getting the results that are satisfactory to you.

It’s exactly what I had to do to finally be at ease in the skin I’m in.

So here are my recommendations on achieving clearer skin, that will boost our confidence and is safe to use on the daily.

6 tips to achieve clearer skin - skincare for self-care

Rinse Your Face

One of the best tips I’ve ever heard was from Rachel Hollis (Author of Girl, Wash Your Face. *Not a book on skincare btw) on her Instagram story that has upped my skincare routine.

She said “if there is one thing you should do after every workout (or sweaty activity) immediately go rinse your face,”

I’m going, to be honest, I didn’t do that before….I know gross. But since I heard that I’ve started implementing it every morning after waking up and after every workout. This alone helped keep the acne from showing up so frequently.

So all you gotta do is simply rinse with just water or wash with your favorite face wash.

Cleansing Brush

Of course, this isn’t brand new information and it’s the most obvious too.

But, if I’m being honest, I didn’t deep clean my skin as I should have, which would have probably saved me years of agony if I’m honest.

Get a facial cleansing brush that’s gentle enough to not damage the skin but is good enough to get those pesky spots.

Scrubbing your face everyday helps in the process of ridding more bacteria that contribute to acne and blemishes.

Quality Face Wash

A good face wash is key to any skin routine because of how it cleans and treats your skin.

Soap and water won’t do any justice if you are trying to get better skin, plus regular soap is harsh on your skin.

My go-to face wash right now is the Soap & Glory Face Soap And Clarity & Vitamin C Facial Wash. I’ve already been through 2 bottles of this stuff! The smell is great and the fresh feeling after using it takes my skincare routine to another level!

You can never go wrong with a good face wash for your skincare routine. Try and find a face wash that works well with your skin type and compliments your routine

Tone Up

Ever since I added a Toner to my skincare routine, it’s been nothing but a game-changer for my skin.

Not only is a toner going to cleanse your skin, but it has so many amazing benefits like balancing your ph levels, shrinking pores and so much more.

Some toners are specific for your skin type so you can get the best results.

My absolute favorite is the Mario Badescu Aloe Vera Toner.

It’s a staple in my skincare routine because it helps further cleanse my sensitive dry skin without being too harsh or drying it out even more.

And let me tell you a little goes a long way!

Moisturize

Okay, I’m not going to lie…I wasn’t that good at moisturizing my face even though I have dry skin!!! So you can say that contributed to my skin problems. Eek!

And I wasn’t even using the correct moisturizer for my face?! I was just using any plain lotion! Can you say yikes?!

I can’t stress enough how a good face moisturizer is so important to your skincare routine! The benefits are even greater for your skin with that alone, like keeping wrinkles at bay or minimizing the appearance of blemishes.

Also, please do yourself a favor and don’t make the same mistake as I did. Find yourself a moisturizer specific for just your face. IT’S VERY IMPORTANT!

Drink More Water

Drinking water and keeping yourself hydrated is ESSENTIAL for clearing up skin and keeping it healthy as well with diet.

Water has so many benefits for your skin. Like a flower needs water, so do you. Bloom baby and start drinking your water more frequently!

Your skin will thank you!

A good skincare routine is not hard to find and implement. Utilizing the tips that have not only helped me along my own skincare journey but are proven to be beneficial, is the perfect way to achieve clearer skin.

Good results require consistency in your routine and lots of patience to achieve whatever level of skin health you want.

Just like with self-care, you bring self-love to the mix by nourishing what your body needs most.

I’m a firm believer that you will find the perfect skincare routine along your journey.
