Every day there are things we have to do.
Either you stress out and do as much as you can or you leave it aside telling yourself you’ll do it later and end up wishing you did it by the end of the day.
Does that sound familiar?
Well, I have a little secret to tell you…
You don’t have to do it all in one day!
Unless, of course, you have a deadline for ie.
See, in our minds, we think that everything needs to be done. But it’s just more stress to add to our plates.
So how can we stress less and get things done at the same time?
How To Use The Sticky Note Method
I came across this method a while ago when it was mentioned on The Skinny Confidential Podcast.
It was so genius yet so simple!
All you need is a sticky note and a pen to start getting sh*t done.
I know, you must be saying “It sounds simple enough to just do it”
Which it is, but let’s understand the emotional side of things shall we?
Why The Sticky Note Method Works
Everyone has their method of doing things, but if you struggle with the stress of all the things that need to be done, this method can be one that you start with.
I was always one to put the stress of the to-do’s on my shoulders and felt like everything had to be done right away.
After hearing the quote “Rome wasn’t built in one day” I finally realized what it meant!
It means that nothing is telling us that things HAVE to be done right away, we just have to make sure that it gets done but at a pace, we feel good about.
Coming across the sticky-note method was what I felt was best for me and I still use it to this day.
It’s simple and I feel accomplished by the end of the day when I’ve completed my tasks.
So I want to share with you how you can apply the sticky-note method to start getting sh*t done.
Write It All Out
First things first, grab a piece of paper and start listing off all the things you have to do today.
This will show you the stress right on the paper, but don’t worry, it’s gonna get simpler.
The Important Stuff
Now that you have your list of things to do, narrow down the list to the top 7 most important things from the list.
But make sure it’s the things you for sure have to get done.
Depending on how many you’ve narrowed it down to, number them from 1-3 or 1-5 by most important to least important.
Or you can organize it by how you want to schedule it in your day time-wise. (i.e. Workout first in the morning, Work on Hobby Afternoon, etc.)
That way you can either start from the top and work yourself down or vice versa.
Put It On The Sticky Note
Now it’s time to put your Top 3-5 things to do on your sticky note.
Once on the sticky-note, go ahead and put it somewhere you can always see it.
Your desk, your refrigerator, the back of your phone, are some examples of where to place it.
Now all you have left is to do those 3-5 things and you have a whole day to do it!
Remember, you don’t have to stress since it’s just a few items and it’s doable in a day.
So, once you’ve created your list and did all the things on it, you will feel a sense of achievement.
If you don’t, at least pat yourself on the back and tell yourself “Good Job!”.
And don’t forget to reward yourself with whatever your heart desires!
If you liked the sticky note method and it’s been helpful for you, repeat the steps.
You can either write it all down the night before or in the morning before your day starts.
Every day doesn’t have to be dawned with the stress of the things we have to do.
Take the time to knock out what you have in bits and pieces for the day.
I promise you’ll feel so much better!
